What a wonderful creation of Allah, CORN! Read Surat al Baqarah, (2:261), “”The example of those who spend their property in the way of Allah is as the example of a grain growing 7 ears with a hundred grains in every ear. And Allah multiplies for whom He pleases. And Allah is ample giving, knowing.”
Allah explains to us how when we give in the way of Allah, it multiplies, like the corn. Have you ever popped some corn at home? With some adult help, make some pop corn with 3/4 of the kernels in your pot. Notice how you cannot fit the popcorn in its original container anymore. It has so generously grown to give you and your friends a yummy snack. This gives you an idea of how giving in the way of Allah multiplies. Let us constantly give generously like the pop corn!
Conduct the following experiment using the remaining kernels. Watch how kernels hop up and down. Lets try and hop around in our life constantly giving generously (like Sayyida Khatija (a)).
Ear of Corn Kit:
- Vinegar
- Baking soda
- Pop corn kernels
- Large glass jar
- Water
Instructions:
- For the experiment, fill your glass jar with 2-3 cups of water. Add 2 tablespoons of baking soda and stir.
- Add a handful of the popcorn kernels into the jar.
- Then add 6 tablespoons of vinegar and watch.
- Talk about what you can do generously like Sayyida Khatija (a). Her wealth was used to save Islam. What can I do hopping in the right direction?
